Jon Carnegie, Founder

Dr. Jon Carnegie spent the late 80’s and ealy 90’s working as a third world journalist in a diverse range of countries including Vietnam, Cambodia, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Sudan. It was while in post Pol Pot Cambodia that he developed the idea of starting his own school and 15 years later it became a reality.

As an educator, Jon has had a wide and varied career. While working for 17 years at Trinity Grammar School, he was also responsible for Nelson Mandela’s visit to Australia in 2000, and as a result, he was awarded several education prizes including The John O. Miller Award for Excellence in Education in 2000, the Commonwealth Australian Teachers Prize for Excellence and the National Excellence Award for Secondary Teaching in 2001.

In recent years, Jon has spoken nationally and internationally with the likes of Nelson Mandela, The Dalai Lama and Madeleine Albright at a range of educational conferences about the philosophies of his doctoral study on the process of middle school education.

Kate has been working with Jon Carnegie since 2010  to develop not only a sound curriculum and educational model that engages students but to develop and implement real life learning experiences that enable students and the wider community to lead healthy and sustainable lifestyles.

Kate believes in a broad education that involves travel, community awareness, personal and social development. She believes school should teach students not what to think, but how to think. This will help them to become informed and motivated members of our community who are able to tackle the many challenges life inevitably throws at them with positivity and resilience.

Kate is a passionate cook and gardener and has worked nationally and internationally on organic farms and in café’s to develop and broaden her experience in sustainable and healthy eating. It was during her travels in France and Nepal that Kate discovered her passion was not only for cooking and providing healthy food, but for teaching and communicating those ideas.
